VPM Daily Newscast: May 26, 2020

starry night
Listener Philip Andrews says: My wife and I celebrated our 5th anniversary on May 16 and were supposed to be on vacation in Big Sky Country but COVID-19 cancelled our plans. So instead we spent a weekend in Shenandoah. Luck would have it, there was a new moon. Decided to get up at 3 a.m. and head out to Big Meadows to see if I could capture the Milky Way. Got super lucky that it was a clear night and was able to make this image. (Photo: Philip Andrews Photography)

During the coronavirus outbreak, VPM is running a daily newscast of our reporting, hosted by Benjamin Dolle. Episodes are recorded at 6 p.m. and released for 7 a.m. the next day, Tuesday through Friday.

Today's newscast has an update on a virtual Memorial Day ceremony, a second confirmed case of a pediatric inflammatory illness associated with the new coronavirus, a local nonprofit testing under and uninsured people for COVID-19, coronavirus testing in Ashland, Rep. Denver Riggleman on Pres. Donald Trump's coronavirus response, online grocery shopping for SNAP recipients, socially distant high school graduation ceremonies, and a special conversation with the author of 'Sparrow,' a debut YA novel that deals with intimate partner violence, Mary Cecilia Jackson.

If you have a photo that speaks to what you're experiencing under the coronavirus outbreak, please  send it to us with a note about what the image means to you. Today's photo came from Richmond-based Philip Andrews, who specializes in portraits, wedding and real estate photography. We had to 'letterbox' the image to fit in our cover spot - full image below.
