VPM Daily Newscast: June 2, 2020

Heavily armed police
A militarized police force responded to protests over the weekend. VPM journalists were pepper sprayed and gassed, and a peaceful protest was disrupted by gas and pepper spray as police seemingly sought to establish a perimeter around the Robert E. Lee statue on Monument Avenue. (Photo: Crixell Matthews/VPM News)

During the coronavirus outbreak, VPM is running a daily newscast of our reporting, hosted by Benjamin Dolle. Episodes are recorded at 6:00 p.m. and released for 7:00 a.m. the next day, Tuesday through Friday.

In today's newscast, we have a spot on the gassing of peaceful protesters and the city response, a story on the man pepper sprayed in his own home, coverage of the NAACP event Sunday, COVID-19 testing in Chesterfield, Richmond officials pledge to adopt the "Marcus Alert," a policing reform named after Marcus-David Peters, the 24-year-old teacher a Richmond police officer killed two years ago, and a feature on trauma.
