Henrico’s Board of Supervisors are planning to discuss a proposed $2.3 billion arena development Jan. 21 and Jan. 26. The proposal, dubbed Green City, originates from the would-be Navy Hill developers Michael Hallmark and Susan Eastridge.
Unlike the proposed Navy Hill, Green City would be funded only by tax revenues it generates. A coalition of grassroots critics killed the Navy Hill deal over its funding, which would have diverted tax revenues from 80 blocks of downtown Richmond.
Announced in December of last year, Green City’s amenities include: a 17,000 seat arena, over 2,000 units of residential housing, two hotels, 40 acres of park systems and eco-friendly infrastructure in Henrico’s Fairfield district.
On Jan. 21, Fairfield district residents will meet virtually with Board of Supervisors Representative Frank Thornton to discuss the proposal. Residents are encouraged to submit questions in advance to [email protected] or ask questions during the live stream.
The broader public will have an opportunity to comment during the Board of Supervisors regularly scheduled meeting on Jan. 26. The county will discuss transferring property to their economic development authority to sell to developers.
