State officials say the Robert E. Lee monument will be taken down tomorrow. In preparation, several roads in Richmond will be closed to traffic and parking starting today. Richmond Police say the closures will remain in effect until Saturday, in preparation for the removal of the statue. The roads blocked off to traffic include Monument Ave. and West Grace Street between North Meadow and Lombardy Streets. The no parking zone includes part of West Broad Street, closest to the Lee statue.
With the removal of the Lee Monument, questions remain about what will replace it. Whittney Evans has more.
Amazon is expanding its operations in Virginia. Jonah Grinkewitz, from our partner station WHRV, has more details about the new developments in Hampton Roads.
As communities across the country recover from damage caused by Ida, state officials are urging Virginians to prepare for the rest of hurricane season. The Department of Conservation and Recreation says most homeowners and renters don’t have flood insurance. They’re encouraging people to sign up for coverage before hurricane season ends, on November 30th. The DCR works with towns and counties to evaluate flood risks in their area, and to map out zones that might be impacted by heavy storms. Residents can also use a tool, called the “ Virginia Flood Risk Information System,” on DCR's website, to see if their home is in a special flood hazard zone.
