Richmond’s two homeless shelters to close this month

The city of Richmond’s inclement weather shelter and non-congregate shelter, which was formed by the city when the COVID-19 pandemic began, will close within a week of each other. Representatives of Commonwealth Catholic Charities, which operates both locations, say they’re working to find alternative emergency housing for everyone living in their facilities.
Virginians can apply to state program to protect their ash trees

Virginia is offering to help residents pay to guard their ash trees against a dangerous pest, the emerald ash borer. It’s an invasive species originally from Asia, and it’s the most destructive forest insect to ever invade the United States. From April 20, through June 17, landowners can apply for a program with the state forestry department, which will pay half of the costs to treat ash trees with a special insecticide.
