Department of Education hands over record after Reporters Committee files lawsuit

The Virginia Department of Education handed over a file on Tuesday related to Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s first executive orders. State officials had previously blocked the file from public release. The Reporters Committee for Freedom of the Press filed a lawsuit earlier this month on behalf of a VPM News reporter who sought a record that VDOE claimed was exempt from public release. The withheld email attachment, called “EA_Instructions,” lays out guidance from the Youngkin administration to top state officials on how to enforce 11 executive orders signed on his first day in office, Jan. 15.
Richmond releases draft plan to tackle climate change

City officials released a draft plan this week on the methods Richmond wants to use to tackle climate change. Now, they're looking for residents' feedback. The Draft Climate Equity Action Plan 2030 is the next step of the RVAGreen 2050 initiative. The plan sets a goal for the city to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030 and to reach zero emissions by 2050. Community members have until June 19 to provide feedback on it through the city’s website.
Dulles Airport is getting a brand new concourse

Dulles International Airport is getting a new concourse to replace an aging facility. The Airport Authority Board approved the $675 million project Wednesday. Airport officials also hope to win a $230 million airport grant from the recently-passed federal infrastructure package. Construction is estimated to be completed by 2026.
