With temperatures nearing 100 degrees this weekend, the Richmond and Henrico Health Districts are asking people to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

“Unfortunately, we can see an uptick in heat-related illnesses and calls when temperatures get really high,” Chad Greedan, director of field operations at Richmond Ambulance Authority, said in a press release. “We want to help the community recognize the signs of heat illness, so they don’t have an emergency situation.”

RHHD and RAA advise that people in Central Virginia stay cool indoors where there's air-conditioning; carefully and strategically plan outdoor activities; drink fluids; avoid alcohol; and be aware of heat-related fatigue.

For additional information on what to do in extreme heat, visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention's website.
