On Tuesday, Huguenot High School students gathered at Altria Theater for their graduation ceremony.
Shortly after it ended, seven people were shot and approximately a dozen more were injured. Two people died: Shawn Jackson, a new Huguenot alum — and his stepfather, Renzo Smith.
Richmond Public Schools closed on Wednesday, June 7, following the mass shooting. During that time, dozens of students, parents and Richmond-area residents decided to march.
Wearing orange to stand with victims and survivors of gun violence and carrying handmade signs, they traveled to the Virginia State Capitol for an anti–gun violence rally.
