On Nov. 13, 2022, a shooter opened fire while on a charter bus returning to Charlottesville from Washington, D.C., killing Devin Chandler, Lavel Davis Jr. and D’Sean Perry. Two others were injured. The shooter, who was identified as a member of the University of Virginia football team, has been charged in their deaths.

This past weekend Chandler, Davis and Perry were honored throughout Saturday's game, the first at home of the season.
