Chairman Bob May makes his way to his his car following a Hanover County School Board meeting on Tuesday, July 9, 2024 at Hanover County Administration Building in Hanover County, Virginia. The ACLU of Virginia is suing the board, Chair May and Superintendent Michael Gill in federal court, arguing that Hanover discriminated against transgender student by not allowing her to play on the girls' tennis team.

A new approach to agriculture

At its Black Bear Solar Farm in Dillwyn, Dominion Energy is testing a pilot program in agrivoltaics, an approach that involves pairing solar installations with other agricultural uses.

In addition to solar panels that can generate enough energy to power up to 400 houses, Black Bear Solar also hosts four honeybee hives with approximately 180,000 bees. The bees pollinate wildflowers and crops in a 5-mile radius, which in turn makes the area more friendly to other creatures — like butterflies.
