An unexpected speaker in the House of Delegates
It’s not every day that state senators from the same party and same locality break on a piece of legislation — especially once it’s already been passed by their chamber and referred to the House of Delegates.
But that’s exactly what happened this week. Sen. Jennifer Boysko (D–Fairfax) addressed a House subcommittee meeting to oppose to a bill by Sen. Scott Surovell (D–Fairfax) that would have added Fairfax County to the list of localities eligible for a casino.
"I know it's unusual to have a member of the Senate come out and testify against somebody else's bill," she said. "I am representing my 200-plus thousand constituents who have been very clear that this is not an appropriate location for a casino."
