Below are details on upcoming public meetings in the City of Richmond and Albemarle, Chesterfield and Hanover counties.
Richmond
City Council
6 p.m. Monday
Council chambers, 2nd floor, Richmond City Hall
301 N. 9th St.
Councilors are set to vote on Mayor Danny Avula’s inaugural $3 billion spending plan for the city, which includes the 2026 fiscal year operating budget and capital improvement plan for FY26–FY30.
Some of the council’s proposed amendments made it into the plan, but several councilors criticized the process and said they should have more say on the budget.
Council is also expected to vote on a proposal from the Veritas School, a private Christian school, to build six tennis courts on its Northside campus. The Planning Commission voted 5-2 to recommend approval of the proposal, with Interim Chief Administrative Officer Sabrina Joy-Hogg voting against it.
If the proposal is approved, the courts would be built on a vacant parking lot (1402 Westwood Ave.) where planned townhomes were never constructed. The proposal has drawn several public comments, including a petition signed by neighbors opposing the plan.
Councilors will also vote on selling vacant city-owned properties in Northside (1501 and 1601 Fendall Ave.) to the nonprofit Eden Village of Richmond for affordable housing for the unhoused and low-to-moderate-income individuals.
Under the deal, there will be 30–40 rental units expected to be around $350 per month, and the nonprofit — which would receive the nearly 6-acre property for a "nominal consideration" of $100 — will have to spend $4 million on the project.
The council will also vote on a grant contract with the International Rescue Committee to fund a youth development program for refugee students.
Urban Design Committee
10 a.m. Thursday
5th Floor conference room, Richmond City Hall
301 N. 9th St.
The committee is scheduled to vote on recommendations for final reviews of the Brown’s Island improvement plan and Woodville Elementary School replacement project.
Albemarle County
Board of Supervisors
7 p.m. Wednesday
Victory Hall
401 Valley St.
In a joint meeting with Scottsville Town Council, Albemarle supervisors are set to get updates on the county’s Comprehensive Plan and economic development plan.
The comprehensive plan, required to be updated periodically, is a foundational document that guides “officials' decision-making on public infrastructure, amenities, and services,” according to the county.
Chesterfield County
6:30 p.m. Tuesday
Chesterfield County Public Meeting Room
10001 Iron Bridge Road
Board members are slated to review budget change requests.
The board is also expected to vote on recommended revisions to the district’s strategic plan for 2025-2028 and a proposal to buy and put weapon detectors at all middle and high schools.
Hanover County
7 p.m. Tuesday
Board room, Hanover County Administration Building
7516 County Complex Road
Board members are scheduled to vote on approving the school division’s FY26 operating budget, its five-year capital improvement plan and nutrition services fund spending plan.
The public will get to weigh in on the proposed redistricting of school boundaries before the board votes on the district’s implementation plan.
The new boundaries will be used starting in the 2026–27 school year for most neighborhoods; the Giles Farm neighborhood will be reassigned to Washington-Henry Elementary in 2027–28.
