Verizon customers have been experiencing a phone network outage in Albemarle County.

County facility phone systems have been affected, with no anticipated timeline to restore service.

Albemarle’s non-emergency lines are also impacted, and county police are asking residents to email [email protected] if they need to reach the police department.

The City of Charlottesville's desk and mobile phones have also been affected by the outage, but their buildings will remain open during normal business hours and emails to staff will still go through.

City officials told residents to call 911 to reach the Utilities Dispatch in case of a utility emergency, including if they smell gas, have utility line damage or any other sort of utility-related emergency. In a statement, officials said calls "will be rerouted to our Utilities Dispatch so we can react appropriately."

Based on social media reports, phones at the University of Virginia and Greene County have also been spotty or down.
