Pink's, a Hollywood landmark, has been selling the same all-beef, natural casing dog since 1939. Its chili cheese dog goes for $3.20 and the chili is a secret family recipe.
Makes 2 to 4 servings
4 kosher all-beef frankfurters
4 white hot dog buns
1 small onion finely diced
8 slices American cheese
1 to 1 1/2 cup homemade chili (recipe below)
Yellow mustard
Grill or boil hot dogs to desired doneness.
Steam hot dog buns in bamboo steamer or on hot grill for 60 seconds.
Spread two slices of cheese overlapping diagonally across the base of the hot dog bun, and place hot dog on top of cheese.
Drizzle mustard on dog, and cover with chili and onion.
