Chocolate Nut Bourbon Pie

Chocolate nut bourbon pie

There are several variations of this pie, considered a Kentucky classic. This is my husband's version.

Makes 1 9-inch pie

2 eggs, slightly beaten

1 cup sugar

1/2 cup flour

1/2 cup butter or margarine, melted and cooled

1 teaspoon vanilla

3 to 4 tablespoons bourbon

1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

1 cup walnuts (can use pecans instead)

1 tablespoon flour

1 deep-dish unbaked pie shell

Pinch of salt

Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Mix together the eggs, sugar, flour, butter or margarine, vanilla and bourbon in a large mixing bowl.

In a separate bowl, toss the chocolate chips and nuts in flour to coat. Add to the other mixture and stir thoroughly.

Pour into crust. Bake for 30 minutes at 350 or until toothpick inserted in center of pie comes out clean.

Cool for 1 hour.

Serve warm or at room temperature. Top with whipped cream, if desired.
