Recently our guest blogger Carlos Reyes wrote about the rise of all-women rock groups such as Argentina's Las Kellies and Costa Rica's Las Robertas.

On this week's show we'll be talking about Chiquita y Chatarra (Tiny And Trashy), a band made up of bass player/guitarist Amelia Díaz Duarte and singer and drummer Patricia Àlvarez Alonso from Oviedo, Spain.

Their new album, out last from Discos Humeantes, is called Animal De Amor (Love Animal). Filled with short, dirty, blurting songs, they play a fantastic blend of garage rock, menacing surf psychedelia, '60s girl groups and punk. They're just the latest in a long line of fantastic Spanish garage rock bands we've been drooling over here at Alt.Latino.

Impossibly deep vocals and eccentric lyrics give them a kitschy femme fatale air. Listening to the song "Naked On The Beach," you can almost picture a John Waters film, two ladies with scarves wrapped around their hair and cat-eye sunglasses driving to a nudist beach in their convertible.

This is also a good opportunity to tell you guys about Discos Humeantes, one of our favorite independent labels. Based in Asturias, Spain, it specializes in vinyl releases and is a go-to source for great Spanish garage rock.
