In a note to newsroom staff, Tommy Evans, Managing Editor, Editorial Review, shared the following announcement:
All:
I am delighted to announce the full roster of Backstop Editors.
Kristian Monroe joins NPR as Deputy Managing Editor for Editorial Review. Kristian comes to NPR from the BBC, where she was an Executive Producer in the BBC’s Washington Bureau. Kristian was key in the BBC coverage of US politics, race relations, as well as the Corporation's expansion into streaming. Before the BBC, she was with MSNBC, CNN, and NBC News.
Nadia Lancy joins NPR as Deputy Managing Editor for Editorial Review. Nadia comes to NPR from CNN; she was a senior writer and producer for CNN International for many years until becoming an Editor on the Row, CNN’s internal editorial review organization. During her time as a senior editor, she worked across platforms, subject matters, and styles, working closely with Standards and Practices to ensure the highest possible journalistic standards were adhered to.
Yvonne Dennis joins NPR as Senior Editor for Editorial Review. Yvonne came to NPR from the Wall Street Journal, where she spent nearly two decades as a news editor, editing print and digital content for the WSJ. In addition to her work at the Journal, Yvonne has been an adjunct professor of journalism at Temple University, the Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY, the College of New Jersey, and Hunter College. Yvonne joins some of her former students working in the NPR newsroom.
Marjorie Valbrun joins NPR as Senior Editor for Editorial Review. Marjorie was most recently the Managing Editor of Inside Higher Ed; before that, she was the Health & Education Editor for the Baltimore Sun, as well as a writer for the Baltimore Sun, TheRoot.com, the Wall Street Journal, the Philadelphia Inquirer, and the Miami Herald.
Last but certainly not least, Eric McDaniel will be moving from the Washington Desk to join the team as Senior Editor for Editorial Review. Many of you will already know Eric from his work on the Desk as well as the Politics Podcast, Up First, and Morning Edition.
Many of you have already met Yvonne since her start on October 7; Kristian, Nadia, and Marjorie will be with us starting next week, on October 21. Eric will make the transfer from the Washington Desk after the election, starting November 18.
