Queen Elizabeth's legacy lives on in Florida with a flock of swans

MICHEL MARTIN, HOST:

Good morning. I'm Michel Martin. Britain's longest-serving monarch, Queen Elizabeth II, died last September, but her legacy lives on in a number of ways, including a flock of swans in Lakeland, Fla., who are getting their annual checkup. The swans are the descendants of a pair that the queen gifted the city of Lakeland, which is just outside of Tampa, nearly 70 years ago. The now 50 swans are being rounded up this week for their annual physical before heading back to Lake Morton, their very own swan lake all year round. It's MORNING EDITION.
