King Charles III, British Prime Minister share condolences

The United Kingdom's King Charles III says his "thoughts and prayers are with President Carter's family and the American people," and recalls meeting Carter in 1977.

"He was a committed public servant, and devoted his life to promoting peace with human rights," the kind said in a statement. "His dedication and humility served as inspiration to many, and I remember with great fondness his visit to the United Kingdom in 1977."

U.K. Prime Minister Keir Starmer paid tribute to Carter's "decades of selfless public service," saying he will be remembered for the Camp David Accords between Israel and Egypt and "lifelong dedication to peace that saw him receive the Nobel Peace Prize."

"Motivated by his strong faith and values, President Carter redefined the post-presidency with a remarkable commitment to social justice and human rights at home and abroad," Starmer said.
