Nonstop Wichita-D.C. flights only started last January

The American Airlines route between Wichita and Washington, D.C., is just over a year old.

Its first nonstop flights started last January after being announced to much fanfare in July 2023.

Sen. Jerry Moran, R-Kan., said at the overnight briefing that he had lobbied American Airlines to launch nonstop flight service to DCA, and had flown that exact flight many times.

"I know that flight," Moran said. "And it is certainly true that in Kansas and in Wichita, in particular, we're going to know people who are on this flight, know their family members, know somebody."
