The head of the FAA left his role on Inauguration Day

Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said he had directed the Federal Aviation Administration to aid in the response.

It's unclear who — if anyone — is at the helm of the FAA, since its most recent administrator, Mike Whittaker, stepped down on Jan. 20.

The FAA's website lists the positions of administrator and deputy administrator as "vacant" as of Thursday morning.
