Art for the Journey program

Art for the Journey started five years ago with their flagship program at the Virginia Women's Correctional Institute in Maidens, VA. A combination of art therapy and fellowship, the women enjoy create inspiring paintings for two hours every week.

Michael Birch Pierce is a VCU fashion professor and embroidery artist who creates on the spot embroidered portraits. They have become a nationally known artist and have been invited to create art at SXSW and the Super Bowl. They are represented by Quirk and will be creating a piece for the grand opening of its Charlottesville hotel in January where they will have an exhibit.

CultureWorks supports and promotes artober 2019, which is a month long event of performing arts and visual arts events around Richmond and Petersburg.

The Art Scene is a co-production of VPM and 19RED, the broadcast production division of Fuel, a Richmond-based film/video production company owned and operated by The Art Scene producers Pam and Todd Hervey.

The program is hosted by actor Haliya Roberts with segment hosts Bianca Bryan, Douglas “Roscoe B” Powell, and Noah Scalin.
