A bountiful harvest is just one of the rewards of gardening! Explore the work of community gardens that are inspiring new growers, promoting healthy eating, and advocating for food equity - not to mention growing tons of produce to share with neighbors.

Peggy Singlemann talks to Shana Williams to learn how she transformed a vacant lot in Richmond's northside into the Williams City Farm, where she works with neighborhood youth to teach gardening skills and grow crops to share with the community.

Peggy meets Richard Morris at the Charlottesville Albemarle Technical Education Center to tour Cultivate Charlottesville's newest growing site and learn about the organization's work to promote food justice and provide healthy food to underserved communities.

In the studio Shana demonstrates how to make remedies for common plant problems using materials that can be found in the home. Richard explains how to grow your own sweet potatoes by propagating slips in glass jars.

Amyrose Foll shares tips for reducing pest pressure in your vegetable garden by using polyculture and trap crops. Randy Battle shows how to get started growing vegetables in buckets and offers tips on how you can save money by making your own potting soil.
