There is so much music this week - and so much variety! Concerts and performances you can enjoy safely at home or at venues adapted for social distancing. As our last weeks of summer fade - may we have ears to hear the swan song it sings looking into the eyes of fall. Of course, music isn't all our arts and culture community is offering this week - it's offering so much more. Step out literally or figuratively into our creative region and discover something new.
1. THE OASIS: A HIGH NOON CONCERT SERIES

Join The Valentine in their garden every Tuesday and Thursday for free, informal and physically-distanced performances from a diverse mix of local musicians. 2. SHOCKOE SESSIONS LIVE WITH COLIN PHILS

Join In Your Ear Studios for another awesome Shockoe Sessions Live with Colin Phils, an American post rock band formed in South Korea in 2013. Colin Phils’ sound has been described as part math-rock, part post-rock, with catchy hooks and harmonies throughout. The band has played throughout South Korea, China, Hong Kong, and the USA, and is now based in Richmond, Virginia. Watch safely on Facebook Live.
3. VIRTUAL SYMPOSIUM | THE KAMOINGE WORKSHOP: COLLABORATION, COMMUNITY, PHOTOGRAPHY

The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts hosts this virtual symposium in conjunction with their special exhibition, Working Together: Louis Draper and the Kamoinge Workshop. Join the museum weekly for panel discussions with Kamoinge artists and scholars to contextualize and address Kamoinge’s role in the history of 20th-century photography, and the Black Arts Movement, as well as the social and professional challenges faced by black photographers working in the field.

Lawyers sometimes have talents outside the legal arena! Virtually join The Greater Richmond Bar Foundation on for an evening of local music talent streaming live from The Broadberry. Music provided by Dead Letter Officers, Soul Providers, and Wild Common. All proceeds will go to support the Greater Richmond Bar Foundation’s mission to expand access to justice in Central Virginia and will help mobilize, train, and connect attorneys to pro bono clients. VA Pride and Flying Squirrels Baseball bring “Pride MOVIE Night at the Diamond,” featuring the #LGBTQ classic, The Birdcage. Tickets are $8, with half the cost going to support VA Pride. Socially-distanced movie viewing spaces are available in the Outfield that accommodate up to groups of up to four and groups of up to eight people. Bring your blankets and pillows, but no lawn chairs, please! TICKETS must be purchased online in advance. Concessions also are available to purchase online in advance, before and during the event.

Visit Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden’s on Thursday evenings in September for socially distanced live music outdoors on their 50-acre campus. Guests are invited to bring their own blankets and chairs. Food is not allowed to be brought into the Garden, but there is an option to purchase food online to eat outside in the Garden. Tickets are available online only and are limited (no walk-ups). 8. MOVIE MYTHBUSTING: HIDDEN FIGURES

Join the Virginia Museum of History and Culture as their education team “mythbust” the fan-favorite movie, Hidden Figures, and talk about the true story behind the three brilliant African-American women at NASA, who served as the brains behind one of the greatest operations in history: the launch of astronaut John Glenn into orbit. Watch the film in advance, whenever or however works best for you, and then log into an interactive Zoom presentation where we will chat about what’s true, what’s not, and make some interesting connections to their collection.
