At the start of any new year, personal and communal introspection is fairly common. This year is no exception - except that last year was entirely uncommon. Arts & culture offerings this week reflect our need to review our history, to peek into the dark places we have been, and to settle into a soft cushion with a good book. And for those who choose a different path - there are twinkle lights and a new dance to learn!

Journey with the World War II Writing and Research Center as they take you into the past through story. Bachata is a popular dance that originated in the Dominican Republic. This class, offered by Salsa Connection Dance Company, is open to all skill levels of dancers. 4. VIRGINIA & PRESIDENTIAL POLITICS

Soon after the Revolutionary War and the creation of the United States, American leaders realized that they differed in their visions of what the nation should be. Little has changed in the 200 years that followed. The first clash of ideas was between agriculturists like Thomas Jefferson and nationalists like George Washington. Their political views and those of the next six Virginia-born presidents will be examined in this richly-illustrated lecture from the Virginia Museum of History and Culture that reviews their campaigns.
