After ten, music-filled days featuring the best youth violinists from around the world, the Menuhin Competition Richmond 2021 comes to a close. To celebrate the competitors and featured musicians, VPM will broadcast and stream the closing Gala presentation tonight, Sunday, May 23, beginning at 5:00 PM.
The Menuhin Competition Gala Presentation will present excerpts from the Richmond Symphony’s opening Celebration Concert, featuring Angelo Xiang Yu, 2021 juror and winner of the Oslo 2010 Senior 1st Prize, and conducted by Jahja Ling.
The Menuhin Competition’s Junior winner Keila Wakao of the United States/Japan and Senior winner María Dueñas of Spain will also offer special performances, as well as the many guest artists and ensembles featured during The Competition.
Classical host for VPM Music, Mike Goldberg, will share the virtual stage with Fred Child, radio personality and long-time host of APM’s Performance Today, to emcee the event. They will reflect on The Competition as well as introduce encore performances from The Sphinx Virtuosi, Mark and Maggie O’Connor, and The Regina Carter Quartet.
The Menuhin Competition Gala Presentation is a free virtual event and will broadcast on VPM, PBS, and VPM Music (107.3 FM and 93.1 FM) as well as stream online through the VPM website, the Menuhin Competition Richmond 2021 website, and on the Menuhin Competition YouTube channel.
