An artist who has been called “stunningly original” with “a visionary imagination,” composer and pianist Daniel Kelly explores the meeting place of music with literature, visual art and journalism, captivating audiences across the country. Blind Visionaries is his stunning multi-media collaboration with the pioneering group of visually-impaired photographers, the Seeing with Photography Collective. Dogs can enjoy the holiday lights at GardenFest for Fidos! Leashed dogs are allowed at Lewis Ginter Botanical Gardens for this special night. All dogs must be leashed and current on rabies vaccinations. Please read rules and guidelines for visiting with dogs. Due to the popularity of this event, it may be sold out. However, GardenFest (without Fido) continues through January 9. You may purchase tickets for either online.

Join The Valentine virtually for their next program in the Controversy/History series - “Free to Believe – Religious Freedom Today.” 235 years ago, the state of Virginia passed the VA statute of Religious Freedom and Thomas Jefferson proclaimed the mind free. Explore how our understanding of our freedom of conscience has evolved in the years since and how it continues to be challenged today. Panelists include Imam Amarr Amonette (Islamic Center of Virginia), Kim Bobo (Virginia Interfaith Center for Public Policy) and Chris Burton (Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities). The Richmond Public Library’s Main Branch offers three new exhibits for First Fridays RVA: Laura Heyward exhibits recent landscapes from Virginia and Maine in oils on dyed canvases with some pen and inks on Bristol paper; Brenna Doherty’s panoramic vistas accompanied by her newest theme of Goddess archetypes in the viscous medium of oil and oil-based mediums expressing her interpretation of her subject in large-scale works; and Original comic panels handmade by the members of the Zazuverse, metro Richmond Comic Creators. Join Pamplin Historical Park as they bring speaker Steven Sodergren to share the story of “The Army of the Potomac in the Overland and Petersburg Campaigns.” The final year of the Civil War found the Army of the Potomac endured months of brutal trench warfare and fighting against their Confederate adversaries. Sondergren will explore the Overland and Petersburg Campaigns where the morale of the soldiers was tested as attrition and the new grim realities of a lengthy campaign set in.
