Composer Morten Lauridsen has gained international recognition for his choral music. He has received numerous grants, prizes and commissions over the years, while serving as chair of the composition department at the University of Southern California. He’s taught at USC for more than 40 years!

Lauridsen’s works have been recorded on more than 200 CDs, five of which have received Grammy Award nominations. He was the composer-in-residence of the Los Angeles Master Chorale from 1994 until 2001.

On his 75th birthday this year, the  Chamber Choir of Europe recorded Lauridsen’s landmark compositions, including two world premiere recordings, in close collaboration with the composer himself. I had the honor of sitting down with him to discuss his amazing career and this recording.

You can hear sound clips from “Light Eternal” here.

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg Classical Music Host, WCVE Music
