On this third edition of "Page’s Kitchen," we’ll be serving up a rich and nourishing helping of the blues… more specifically the Piedmont blues, as delivered by two of the all-American genre’s most renowned practitioners, John Cephas and Phil Wiggins.

Both were born in our nation’s capital, a generation apart, with John spending most of his life just up the road in Bowling Green. They would famously meet at the Smithsonian’s Folk Life Festival in 1976 and they’d become a duo a year later. Just a few years before this "Kitchen" session was recorded, they released two successful albums on the Flying Fish label, Dog Days of August and Guitar Man, winning a prestigious WC Handy Award for best traditional blues album. We lost John in March of 2009, but Phil plays on in many settings, including a couple of appearances in JAMinc’s In Your Ear Concert series and at the Richmond Folk Festival.

We invite you to settle in for an engaging and historic blues seminar, recorded in RVA’s storied Flood Zone Studio in January of 1990, as we welcome Cephas & Wiggins to Page’s Kitchen.
