On this 7th edition of Page’s Kitchen, we spend the full hour with one of Americana’s most treasured voices and songwriters with strong Virginia roots - Mary Chapin Carpenter and her longtime musical partner John Jennings. When she stopped by the Kitchen a full 31 years ago, she was on the verge of becoming a major player on the country music scene, though her thoughtful lyrics and engaging melodies took her well beyond the boundaries of that genre. When this recording was made, Mary Chapin had already released her 1st album Hometown Girl, produced by John Jennings, who plays a strong supporting role in this kitchen session with rich harmonies and tasteful lead guitar.
Also making another appearance in the Swamp is Page’s go-to fiddler back then, Cecil Hooker, who added so much to the J.J. Cale session - he won’t disappoint this time either.
She’s a five-time Grammy winner including four consecutive Grammys for Best Female Country Vocal Performance, something no other artist has achieved. She’s also a two-time winner of the CMA award for Female Vocalist of the Year.
