The Orpheus Chamber Orchestrais coming to Richmond and will be performing with saxophonist Branford Marsalis in the Modlin Center for the Arts at the University of Richmond Wednesday evening (1/19) at 7:30pm.  Marsalis is known more for his jazz, but frequently performs with classical ensembles and has a longstanding relationship with the conductorless Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.  Highlights of the porgram include Claude Debussy's Rhapsody for Alto Saxophone and Chamber Orchestra, Jacques Ibert's Concertino da camera and a newly commissioned work by Courtney Bryan built around George Bizet’s famous themes from Carmen.

I had the pleasure of sitting for a Zoom session to discuss the program with violinist Laura Frautschi and composers Courtney Bryan and Zachary Wadsworth.  By the way, Wadsworth grew up in Richmond and orchestrated the Rhapsody by Debussy.  I hope you enjoy our discussion!

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg Classical Host, VPM Music
