The Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia will present two concerts this upcoming weekend.  The first (Saturday 5/14 at 2pm) will take place in the Richmond Public Library and is the first installment of a multi-year CMSCVA commissioning project inspired by Modest Mussorgsky’s timeless musical suite ”Pictures at an Exhibition.”  Three world premieres will be heard on this concert, based on works of art and historical objects found in some of Richmond’s many museums and galleries.  The talented line-up of Richmond-born and Richmond-based composers creating this first round of musical pictures are Antonio García, Zachary Wadsworth, and Donovan Williams.

Then on Sunday (5/15 at 4pm) at First Unitarian Universalist Church, the concert season concludes with the Octet by Franz Schubert paired with a world premiere by Washington State-based composer and conductor Shuying Li.  CMSCVA commissioned “The Eight Immortals and the Sea” for eight players who each musically represent one of the legendary Immortals, famed mythological figures from the composer’s native China.

Listen in as I discuss these exciting concerts with Artistic Director James Wilson and friends!

Yours in good music,
