Henry Cook and I hope you will join us this Saturday night, July 16th, at 9:00 for a wild and wooly special edition of Time For The Blues! For one reason, we’ve got a special guest, a dear friend of ours who was just in town promoting her latest album and for a second reason, we’re featuring an amazing super-group that is guaranteed to knock your socks off!
And if that’s not enough, we plan on using lots of exclamation points!
Our special friend is the one and only Janiva Magness, a wonderful performer and an even better person. We were already fans of hers – Henry claims to be her biggest fan – and since we’ve gotten to know her through interviews and hanging out with her and her band at a few shows, she’s taken to us as friends.
Recently she played at the Tin Pan in Richmond’s West End for the third time and her enthusiastic audience turned out to welcome her with open arms and a few dancing feet. Okay, the dancing feet stayed mostly in their chairs, but I saw several people bobbing and moving throughout the show and they were definitely having a good time!
Well, Janiva has a new album out. It’s called Hard To Kill and it sums up her never-say-die attitude very well. Henry has collected a few songs from the disc for us as well as one from one of her earlier albums. If you’ve never listed to her before, you are in for a real treat!
Next up is The Rides, a powerhouse of a super-group that is comprised of Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Stephen Stills, and Barry Goldberg. Individually, these three have carved out hall of fame careers and together they create a sound that is second to none. They have only released two albums so far, but they are both great and Henry as samples from each to give you an idea of just how amazing the three of them are when they team up!
But wait, there’s more!
Remember when we played some Unusual Suspects? Artists playing the blues who don’t normally play the blues? Well, we’ve got some more for you. I don’t want to give away the surprises so just tune in to find out who we’re featuring this time.
And there’s still more!
We’ve got new releases from our pals Charlie Musselwhite and Bob Margolin and Bob Corritore. When you add it all together, the result is a phenomenal show that will make you glad you love the blues!
