The "Card is Subject to Change" on the next installment of John’s Porch

Join John Porter each Sunday at 10:00 a.m. for John's Porch.

Back when I was a young child, my father used to take me to wrestling matches. We used to cheer on the likes of George Becker, Haystacks Calhoun, and boo the infamous masked Infernos. On the poster that announced the evening’s show was the line, “Card Subject to Change.”

One night I asked my father what that meant and he told me it was legal for them to add matches or substitute one wrestler for another if something unforeseen happened like an injury or car trouble getting to the show.

I never thought anything more about it until I started John’s Porch. See, even when I plan out a show, there are things that might get switched around at the last minute. With a live show, anything can happen and probably will.

So, even when I write down what I have planned for John’s Porch this Sunday, August 21st, from 10:00 a.m. until noon, remember, the Card Is Subject to Change…

This week, we’re taking a trip to paradise. I have several songs that deal with that elusive state of being. There’s some good time R&B. I had a couple of comments about the R&B songs I played last week, so here are some more. Let me know if you like them.

There’s blues from Toni Price, Sue Foley, and Bonnie Raitt and feel good music from Earl Scruggs and Friends, Deanna Bogart, and Buckwheat Zydeco. We get “fooled” in a big way and explore songs of mellow love and disappearing time.

And there’s more, but I have to have a few surprises up my sleeve to share with you.

Even though John’s Porch isn’t quite two months old yet and we’re learning how to walk, I want to thank each and every one of you who have tuned in and made us a part of your Sunday. Anything can happen on a live show and probably will at some point.

I will be glad to have your company if you care to join me from 10:00 a.m. until noon this Sunday. That’s August 21st, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and streaming online at VPM.org.
