Flipping the script on John's Porch

I hope you will join me for John's Porch this Sunday morning, December 18th, from 10:00 until noon, as we flip the script for the day. Usually for the first hour I like to play themed songs and then go to a free for all format in the second hour.

This week, we're going to reverse things and have the first hour be kind of loosey-goosey and the second hour be themed material.

In hour number one, we'll start off with some new music from Blue Highway and Billy Strings. Blue Highway has just released a new single and Billy Strings has a new album that he recorded with his father titled Me/And/Dad. It's a project he's wanted to do for a long time and he realized if he didn't do the album now, he might not get the chance.

It's a collection of old country songs that they used to sing together around the house and it's a fine record to share. I hope you like it.

One themed segment I like to do is to find three songs with the same title to see how different artists approach the song. This week, there are three separate songs with the same title from Chris Isaak, Bob Dylan, and Road Stewart.

Other artists I'll be playing in the first hour include Colin Hay, Carly Simon, Roberta Flack, and Melissa Etheridge.

Plus there's new stuff from Virginia Artists Jeff Wagner and Eric Scott.

Hour two kicks off the season of giving with songs about the holidays. There are tracks from the likes of Christopher Cross, Helen Reddy, Billy Flynn, Tracy Lawrence, NRBQ, Ray Charles and more.

For those of you who haven’t visited John’s Porch yet, I hope you will check us out one Sunday morning. We play an eclectic mix of blues, country, bluegrass, rhythm & blues, mix of blues, country, bluegrass, rhythm & blues, zydeco, folk, and other genres that will make you happy.

I hope you will join me this Sunday, December 18th, from 10:00 to noon, on John’s Porch. We would love to have you over for company. You can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and online at VPM.org.
