Soul artists from the Old Dominion featured on John's Porch

I hope you will join me this Saturday, January 14th and Sunday, January 15th, on John’s Porch as we’ll have some fun listening to great tunes. On Saturday, we’ll have another episode of “Motown Memories” and sample four tunes from the vaults of Motown Records. This time, I’m playing hits by the likes of Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross.

Also on Saturday, we’ll have an extended version of “Virginia Corner” and sample three songs from soul artists from the Old Dominion who got distributed on independent labels. We’ve also got some singer-songwriters in a set that includes the Lonesome River Band, Susan Greenbaum, and Mark Daniel.

But that’s not all. There are also songs from Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, Son Seals, Marc Cohn, Arlo Guthrie, John Prine with Bonnie Raitt, Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Bob Dylan, and Randy Crawford.

On Sunday, there are sets from Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers from their 1997 residence at The Fillmore. There’s a lot of good stuff on that box set and we’re merely scratching the surface. There’s also a set from The Eagles box set that I received a while back and finally got around to going through it.

Plus there’s music from folk singer Aoife O’Donovan, Delbert McClinton, Linda Ronstadt, and new music from Diane Blue All-Star Band, Volume Five, and Teresa James.

We give the UK a visit with Elvis Costello, Annie Lennox, and The English Beat plus music from Alison Krauss, Eric Clapton, Lonnie Mack, Dion, and Ray Charles.

If you haven’t yet discovered John’s Porch, we would love to have your company one day, or both if you can swing it. Each show is different and we try to play a mix of rock, blues, country, bluegrass, rhythm and blues, world music, and just about anything that makes you happy.

You can find us Saturday and Sunday from ten until noon. We’re taking over the weekend with different shows for each day. I hope you will join me, and bring along your friends, as we continue to explore familiar and new artists of all stripes. We’re on VPM Music 93.1 and 107.3 and online at VPM.org/listen.
