Virginia Opera is back in Richmond this weekend, presenting "Fellow Travelers," with music by Virginia native Gregory Spears and a libretto by Greg Pierce. The opera is based on the 2007 novel “Fellow Travelers” by Thomas Mallon and follows the story of a love affair between two men caught in the turbulent moment of Senator Joe McCarthy's "Lavender Scare" - an overt policy to drive homosexuality out of government service back in the 1950s.

Artistic Director Adam Turner and baritone Joseph Lattanzi joined me to talk about the opera and the current production. Performances are Friday evening (2/10) at 8 and Sunday afternoon (2/12) at 2:30 in the Carpenter Theatre at the Dominion Energy Center.

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg
