Ben Hall is about the best friend a guitar could ever have. Not only as an accomplished player but as an aficionado and student of style, especially in the school of the distinctive thumb picking style of legends like Chet Atkins and Merle Travis. A native of Okolona Mississippi, and mature well beyond what his twenty-something age might imply, Ben Hall has dedicated himself to spreading the gospel established by his mentors and idols through not only solid musicianship, but also through putting the work in proper historical context. He brings a fresh and earnest perspective to his passion that’s endearing and contagious, something immediately noted by audiences at the 2016 Richmond Folk Festival where Ben appeared--we knew we needed to hear more, so we invited him to play Studio A back in May of 2017.

In Your Ear offers a chance to discover new artists and appreciate the “in the moment” creativity and inspiration that only live music can provide. Studio A is a “great room,” a haven for artists with intimate, friendly and informed audiences and peerless audio fidelity, thanks to engineers Carlos Chafin, Andrea Stefl and Paul Bruski. JAMinc president Tim Timberlake produces the programs covering a wide range of genres including bluegrass, jazz, blues, old time, Celtic, gospel and singer-songwriters of many styles. Artists range from superior local and regional talents, to premier acts from all over the country. Concerts are held monthly except during the summer and begin with a delicious pot luck buffet in the lobby. Check our website for information and reservations: jaminc.org/events.

Production funding of In Your Ear is made possible in part by... Digital Video Group, Infinity Financial Partners, Threshold Counsel PC, the Virginia Folklife Program and the members of 88.9 WCVE Richmond Public Radio. Artist accommodations in cooperation with the Hampton Inn West.
