In Your Ear Episode 53: Lindsay Lou & The Flatbellys

Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys

Sharing an evening with Lindsay Lou and the Flatbellys is like hanging out at a very high level jam session among close and accomplished friends. This Michigan bred band now based in Nashville brings a warm and infectious attitude to their own brand of Americana. They began their evolution as a touring entity back in 2009, based around lead vocalist Lindsay Lou Rilko and her musical and life partner and mandolinist Josh Rilko. Others would come and go but the quartet comprised of Dobro slash band jester Mark “Huggy Bear” Lavengood and bassist PJ George have been a busy bunch, traveling most of the U.S. and the British Isles in recent years. Their itinerary has taken them to prestigious festivals like MerleFest, Grey Fox, Telluride, Strawberry and Virginia’s Red Wing Roots. The band is now based in Nashville and is poised to release a new album and is preparing for its fifth tour of the U.K. All four members contribute vocally and they do a lot of creative instrument swapping, resulting in a relaxed but well focused approach to their compelling song mix.

In Your Ear offers a chance to discover new artists and appreciate the “in the moment” creativity and inspiration that only live music can provide.
