The Virginia Arts Festival is presenting Chicago the Musical - in Concert this Saturday evening (May 6th) at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk. Broadway conductor Rob Fisher is the Artistic Advisor for Musical Theatre and American Songbook for the festival, and he's a Norfolk native!
Rob has made a wonderful career for himself in the theatre world, founding the New York City Center Encores! series in 1994 and serving as its musical director for over a decade. He's had a long relationship with the show "Chicago," dating back to the 1996 revival which is still running on Broadway today!
I was thrilled to have a long chat with Rob about his musical background and the concert presentation that you can hear in Norfolk on Saturday. I've included a good portion of that talk here, as well as some excerpts from the 1996 cast recording of Chicago. Enjoy!
Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg
