Stories by the James: Maeve Jones
Once upon a river flowing, while I pondered, deep and knowing . . .
Maeve Jones, Executive Director for the beloved Poe Museum in downtown Richmond, takes us back to the bustling port of Richmond in the 1800s and sets the stage for Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous connection with the James River, a six-mile swim the writer took when he was 15 years old.
She also speaks to the history of the river during Poe’s life in Richmond, and how it served as a backdrop for both light and darkness during this time.
