The Richmond Symphony

The Richmond Symphony opens their 2023-24 Symphony Series this weekend in the Carpenter Theatre at Dominion Energy Center, with performances Saturday evening (9/30) at 8pm and Sunday afternoon (10/1) at 3pm. I'll be hosting pre-concert talks one hour before each performance with Music Director Valentina Peleggi, concertmaster Daisuke Yamamoto and composer Andrea Portera.

The program will open with a world premiere of Portera's Eudaimonic Concerto, written for Yamamoto in celebration of his tenth anniversary as concertmaster with the Richmond Symphony. After intermission, the orchestra will perform Gustav Mahler's Symphony No. 1, the "Titan."

Listen in as Valentina joins me for a preview of these concerts and gives us a few highlights of what's to come this season. I hope you'll join us in the concert hall, but if you're unable to make it, we'll be broadcasting Saturday night's performance live on VPM Music (93.1 and 107.3, live streaming at vpm.org).

Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg
Classical Host, VPM Music
