Virginia Opera returns to the Carpenter Theatre this weekend with their production of "Sanctuary Road" based on the writings of William Still, conductor of the Underground Railroad who helped nearly 800 enslaved African Americans escape to freedom. The music is by Paul Moravec, with a libretto by Mark Campbell.

Esteemed musician, singer and conductor Everett McCorvey is leading the production, which includes members of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra. He joined me to talk about the story behind the work, its creators and the performers that you'll see and hear on stage.
Resident Scholar for Virginia Opera Joshua Borths provides additional insight into "Sanctuary Road" below. You can catch performances Friday evening, February 9th at 7:30pm and Sunday afternoon, February 11th at 2:30pm.
Yours in good music,
