What’s cooking at Time For The Blues

Johnny Burgin Ramblin' from Coast to Coast album cover

Hello Blues Lovers!

Henry Cook and I hope you will join us this Saturday night, May 25th, at 9:00 as we drop another special episode of Time For The Blues. We are especially proud of this show as we get to feature one of our favorite friends and his new album!

Our pal, Johnny Burgin (aka Rockin’ Johnny) is out with a new album called Ramblin’ From Coast To Coast as he has been crisscrossing the country bringing his style of Chicago Blues to venues far and wide. He was recently here in Richmond (at The Camel – a great intimate venue) where he played some of his new tunes and jammed with local harpmeister Andrew Alli and damn near burnt the joint down.

Johnny loves to play in Virginia so keep your eyes peeled for when he might be back. You will love this guy and we’ve got several sides from the new album plus one from a previous release for your listening pleasure.

But that’s not all. Not by a long shot.

We’ve also got some retro blues from Blues Project. This was Al Kooper’s band, and you can hear his technique all over the place. The sides we’re playing date from the mid-sixties, but they sound as fresh today as when they were recorded.

We’ve also got some Yardbirds and Jimi Hendrix from their appearances on the BBC. Those live recordings are going to blow your mind.

And yet there’s still more. Because we’re givers and we want your Saturday night to be a lot of fun.

We have a recent release from Rick Estrin that features a little of Charlie Musselwhite’s voice on it and a recent-ish track from Chris O’Leary as well.

And now for some very exciting news. Say you want to go to a blues show at one of your favorite local music venues. It’s on a Saturday night so you don’t want to miss Time For The Blues. Well, now you don’t have to, because episodes of Time For The Blues are archived for two weeks. So you can catch both shows! Just go to our music archive page (or Time For The Blues page) and scroll down until you come to our shows, then you can listen to your heart’s content!

All that and a few surprises to boot! All in all, it’s a great show and we would love to have you join us for the fun if you care to join us at 9:00 this Saturday night. That’s May 25th, and you can find us on one of these great VPM Stations: 89.1 WCNV, Heathsville; 90.1 WMVE, Chase City; and the flagships, 93.1 and 107.3 VPM-Music and 88.9 HD2, Richmond, and online at VPM.org where it’s always Time For The Blues!
