Data: Virginia Medicaid's managed care failing to connect patients with prenatal care
Reported by VPM News’ Henry Brannan
Insurers made more than $500 million from the state in 2023 toprovide Medicaid coverage to Virginians, many of whom have low income or disabilities. But recently released research indicates that those insurers may be failing to connect pregnant Medicaid enrollees withprenatal care in a timely manner.
In a 2023 quality survey commissioned by Virginia Medicaid, secret shoppers posed as new Medicaid enrollees and placed over 1,800 calls to health care providers to set up prenatal appointments. Less than 5% were scheduled for appointments — and even fewer got an appointment within the agency’s wait-time standards.
Dominion to buy Kitty Hawk offshore wind lease for $160M
Reported by WHRO News’ Katherine Hafner
Dominion Energy announced this week it has agreed to buy a 40,000-acre offshore wind power lease off the Outer Banks for $160 million.
Dominion said the site would be home to an 800-megawatt wind farm that could generate enough electricity for about 200,000 homes and businesses. But the site has struggled to get permitting from the city of Virginia Beach for onshore transmission infrastructure due to neighborhood opposition.
