Kevlar solvent an ‘unreasonable risk’ to human health, EPA says

A proposed Environmental Protection Agency rule regulating a chemical called N-methylpyrrolidone could require new workplace protections for workers at Chesterfield’s DuPont Spruance plant.

NMP is a solvent with a wide range of industrial and consumer uses — including in the production of Kevlar. Gov. Glenn Youngkin weighed in with a February letter to EPA Administrator Michael Regan, urging the agency to ensure that any regulation would not negatively impact Kevlar production.

Local artist Bukuru Nyandwi’s first solo show opens this weekend

Bukuru Nyandwi, who paints by holding a brush between his lips because he has no arms or legs, is preparing for his first solo exhibition. His colorful work depicts life, religion and people helping each other.

Nyandwi was one of the first artists to join Milk River Arts — a creative studio within Manchester’s Studio Two Three that supports a community of neurodiverse artists — when it opened in the summer of 2015.
