Local artist Ms. Jaylin Brown has an eclectic array of influences. Combining R&B, folk and her classical VCU Opera training, Ms. Brown's music reflects a philosophy of vulnerability and connection to nature — one that’ll be on display during her performance Sunday at the 2024 Richmond Folk Festival on the Family Stage.
Ms. Brown recently signed to local label Shockoe Records, and her voice has recently been featured in projects like McKinley Dixon’s album Beloved! Paradise! Jazz?! and the Pharrell Williams docuseries Voices of Fire.
VPM Music hosts Brice Maddox (The Chill Factor) and Annie Parnell (The Undertow, Jazz Weeknights) spoke with Ms. Brown about her work, her Folk Festival memories, and the unique nature of Richmond's music community.
