The Chamber Music Society of Central Virginia has a special concert coming up on Monday evening, December 16th at 7pm in the Holy Comforter Episcopal Church in Richmond. They first presented "Bach by Candlelight" 17 years ago before candlelight concerts became widely popular. It was one of their most memorable events from 20 years of presenting concerts. This year, CMSCVA presents a revival of “Bach by Candlelight” with elegant and emotional music from Johann Sebastian Bach’s solo cello suites and violin partitas, performed by Artistic Director and cellist James Wilson, along with violinist Johnny Gandelsman.
I recently sat down with Jim to discuss the music on this program, as well as the growing popularity of candlelight concerts.
