All Saints Episcopal Church in the West End of Richmond is presenting the one-act opera "Amahl and the Night Visitors" Friday, January 17th at 7pm. The popular holiday work tells the story of a young crippled shepherd boy, who along with his mother join the three kings on their way to visit the Christ child, who has just been born. The opera was originally commissioned specifically for television, and broadcast live by NBC on Christmas Eve in 1951.
All Saints' Music Director Scott Hayes joined me for a discussion of how this production came together. The show is perfect for all ages and will help to support the All Saints Choir’s trip to Scotland this summer.
PLEASE NOTE: The performance date was originally Saturday, January 11th, but was moved to January 17th due to snow in the forecast.
Yours in good music,
Mike Goldberg
