Lawmakers debate bill aimed at Henrico betting-parlor
Reported by VPM News’ Lyndon German
The gaming facility planned for a Henrico County shopping center faces a hurdle in Virginia’s General Assembly.
The Roseshire, operated by parent company Churchill Downs, will feature up to 175 historical horse racing machines, but state Sen. Schuyler VanValkenburg (D–Henrico) is pushing back against the company’s plan.
VanValkenburg introduced a bill that could hamper the project’s potential earnings by limiting how much money the company collects on bets, unless the venue’s approved by voters via ballot referendum or had been permitted by the Virginia Racing Commission.
Virginia EMS agencies have until April to follow new drug regulations
Reported by WHRO’s Nick McNamara
The way paramedics get life-saving drugs is changing in Virginia, and some providers are optimistic it'll make their work more efficient.
EMS agencies across the commonwealth have been working to set up alternative systems for stocking medications, a result of new rules included in the Drug Supply Chain Security Act.
At first, creating a new system concerned some of the agencies.
“I think that now agencies are starting to say ‘OK, we can do this,’” said Ciera Fenske, EMS battalion chief for the Williamsburg Fire Department. “And the great thing is that now we can be in service faster, which makes us available for more calls so that we don't have to use as much mutual aid.”
